KC PRESH TO CELEBRATE 10 YEARS ANNIVASARY
When they hit the Nigerian music scene some years ago with their unique style of hip-hop music, and flamboyant videos, very few people would have thought they would last together this long.
Known as KC Presh, this year would mark their ten years anniversary, which the duo intends to celebrate in grand style come December 2009.
They also say as usual with them, their fans should expect something big from them this year as they are currently working on new Collabos with other Artistes and videos which would be released by first quarter of this year. They however refused to disclose the titles of their upcoming videos as well as names of their featured Artistes. It would be recalled that the duo won the 2008 Channel O Award in South Africa for best hip-hop video (Sengemenge).
On their absence from the recent protest march against piracy by members of PMAN, the duo says though they saw the protest March on T.V, they weren’t aware of the campaign, moreover they were in the United kingdom for the Southampton Mega Jam concert during the period.
They however say they would have been a part of it if they were in town and assured of their participation in similar future campaigns because it’s a fight that concerns all artistes.
KC Presh also assured of PMAN’s unrelenting effort in fighting against the menace of Piracy and further expressed optimism that PMAN would win the fight with support from all stakeholders.
On a personal note, as regards the gist around town about their relationship with “Ebube”, and marriage, they both say Ebube is their friend, adding that fans would get to know if the “wedding bells” would ring in future or not.
Speaking with Goodlife recently at the DKL new office commissioning, the hip-hop stars who are known for their taste for bright colours, blings and flamboyant dressing, say it’s all part of their style and standard. They further said even though they appear in native wear once in a while, they would not be caught wearing an “Agbada”, and if at all they wear it they might just customise it with blings.
Funny isn’t it? Can you imagine an “abgada” all looking bling-bling. Well Kc Presh might just be the first to wear it.

FATTENING ROOM AMONG EFIK WOMEN

FATTENING ROOM AMONG EFIK WOMEN
Cultures differ from race to race and tribe to tribe. While in some other parts of Nigeria and the world at large, to- be brides maintain a slim fit shape in order to look curvy and trendy in their gowns, it would interest you to know that In Nigeria, among the Efik women, 50% of them spend time in fattening room in order to gain extra weight.
The duration a to-be bride spends at the fattening room varies. It can last for as long as 6 months to even a year. After this period she comes out changed and more robust than before.
For the fattening culture in Nigeria, the average weight of a Nigerian woman is 60kg. For most women from Calabar and Akwa-Ibom who patronise the fattening rooms, this weight can be almost doubled , as this is what appeals to their to-be husbands.
After she had been fattened up, the husband continues to maintain her weight through feeding her up on garri, a sort of porridge made from cassava tubers, and native salads, known as Ekpan Koko and Oto. Rice, beans, more meat and fish are also added to her diet to make her more huge and big to maintain the stature the husband wants her to be.
This part of the story is culled from a BBC World Service’s Outlook programme after speaking with a couple who opted for such a service before their wedding.
“In the morning you eat fine. After eating you can take a bath. From there you can sleep, you sleep fine, you wake up, you eat, you sleep.”
“When you are fat, it makes you look healthy,” says Happiness. People respect you. People honour you. Wherever you go, they say, ‘your husband feed you fine. If you go to a village, people can come out to look at you, because you are healthy.”
Despite the risks of heart disease, diabetes and other health problems associated with being overweight, Happiness says she has had no problems as a result of her stature.
“It is all about cultures,” says her husband. The culture here in our area permits women to go into fattening room. But the culture in Europe and other Asian or American does not.”
Interesting isn’t it ? Different strokes for different people.

The Holy Family Catholic, Festac Town, Lagos: The Church you will love to worship

The Holy Family Catholic, Festac Town, Lagos: The Church you will love to worship
The Church is quite a big organization abounding with social gifts that are necessary for the growth of man in his Festac Town environment and beyond. It is also an organization that builds hope and develops the future of its worshippers having been administered by god-fearing priests who have the knack for development, touching the lives of the devoted worshippers in the church. It is indeed one church uniquely different from churches and it takes its numerous advantages from its immediate area of location being Festac Town, one of the largest estates in West Africa.
The origin of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Festac Town can be traced to the 1977 movements of early settlers into Festac town at the completion of the Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC) ceremony hosted in the country in the same year. The early residents of the estate were mainly Catholics who needed a place of worship. The requests of these residents to the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) the sole administrators of the estate yielded the desired results when in the same year; they were allocated with a piece of land at the 22 Road present location. It is fascinating to note that the early worshipper began worshipping in a make-shift structure around the site until the recent structure was completed.
This church is now a multi-purpose building housing a hospital with up-to-date facilities and wards, conference halls, library, book-shops, church offices, a youth-development centre etc. It is strategically located along 22 Road considered to be the heart of the town very close to the Post-Office, Nigerian Telecommunication (NITEL) building, Water works, Local Government Council which can be accessed from behind, Power Holding Company building, and lots of shops. The church is therefore centrally located in the commercial heart of the town.
It has been pointed out that the strength of the church lies in its effective organization carried out by a team of learned individuals and personalities many of who strive to make it an envy of other churches around which indeed it is. The various youth organizations have also been a source of potency to the church that has educated, enlightened and well-thoughtful youths as members. The church is also the most populous church in Festac Town with quite a lot of out-stations in and around the town.
The Holy Family Catholic Church is a parish with some of its out-stations scattered around the town and can be found on 6th Avenue, 7th Avenue, 1st Avenue, 23 Road (by 402 Road) etc. Many of these out-stations are still under construction and the parish is doing all within its means to ensure that they are completed within a reasonable time.
The parish has also had some well-respected priests in the past who invested their competence into bringing it to its present admirable condition today. Many of these priests still visit the church and proffers constructive and practical advice that have always been to the favour to the church, offering it the opportunity for continuous growth. This makes it a spiritual home as well as a social organization.
The New Jerusalem arm of the Charismatic Movement of the church with many of its societies such as Evangelical, Greeters etc has also been a foundation of the spiritual growth of the church, helping in no small way to make the church one big family with lovely and united branches. This Charismatic organization was until it was banned and reopened for membership considered one of the most potent in the world of Catholic churches in Lagos State. At the moment, it is undergoing the process of re-development.
Another feature of the Rev. Sisters and members of staff found in the church office is the amiable and warmth nature always coming from them. It is this wonderful and distinctive trait of attending to the members of the church that endear them to the callers at large. The church is indeed a blessing to the generality of its Festac Town worshippers and beyond.
The church could also offer a useful help to individuals getting married in the church. Although the marriage class usually offered them runs for six months which critics believe extensively takes away half of the one year of the marriage arrangement of couple-to-be, the marriage course still relevantly offers its attendants what is needed to make them live as happy couples. Facilitators of the program are quite learned and full of experiences as it relates to the institution of marriage, which is considered one of the seven sacraments of the Catholic faith.
The path to wedding in the church goes with an acceptable norm, instilling the would-be-couples with proper counseling and coaching that remind them that marriage requires personal self commitments and that it is an institution ordained by the Almighty God who wishes that it never ends in divorce. A non member of the church who wishes consummation of his wedding in the church may be required to attend a catechism class, which will lead to his baptism if he is yet to do so, and eventually his confirmation as these processes will enable him receive his first holy communion before his marriage. It is after these processes have been completed; with marriage banns effectively taken care of that such wedding can take place in the church. The 6 months marriage course is also mandatory.
Holy family Catholic Church is not all for those wishing to get married as there are open numerous societies open for singles alike. These societies are too numerous to mention and will be treated in my next article, however, what is necessary here for proper understanding is that it is a structure that takes care of the young and old alike.
The various choirs of the church with awe-inspiring tones and voices are also huge gifts to the church that is not lacking in youth membership. Outstandingly, the 8.00am adult mass at the upper hall of the church is a force to reckon with. This explains why even children and youths do not overlook attending the service. The sonorous and well-coordinated choir often gloriously thrills worshippers and put them in worship mood. Whether African or hymns, it touches the minds of the people who always want more. The 6.15 am is also great and replete with praise-singing voices.
Of great note is the social contribution of the church to charity. Some of the societies of the church support the widows and widowers, help the poor by making available to them clothing, food-stuff, monies, drugs etc. The charity arms of the church also take frequent trips to prisons, carrying out humanitarian works and helping them to give their lives to God with success.

RMD JOINS NANET SUITES NOLLYWOOD HALL OF FAME
He graced T.V screens in the 90’s with the soap opera “Ripples”, then moved on to “Checkmate”, and has ever since been a popular face in Nollywood, enjoying a wide fan base of not just Nigerians, but Africa at large.
Nollywood Star, Richard Mofe -Damijo joined famous actors, Patience Ozokwo and Zack Orji, as an inductee of the Nanet Suites Nollywood Hall of Fame.
Over the weekend, RMD, as he is better known, became one of the notable names in the Nigerian movie industry that have their portraits adorning the walls of the Nollywood lounge at Nanet Suites. The event which began a little behind schedule had in attendance friends of the Delta State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism.
Decked in a black suit, the star-actor came for the event with his wife, Jumobi. RMD also enjoyed the company of DAAR Communications boss, Raymond Dokpesi, his wife Toyin, his newly wedded son, Raymond Jnr and his wife, Doyin. The venue of the monthly ceremony was jam packed with celebrities including Director General of the National Film and Video Censors Board, Emeka Mba, and Phone Port boss, Femi Sanni.
RMD who’s featured in over 30 films according to Nanet Suites Chief Executive Officer, Ini Akpabio, is an Actor’s actor. Akpabio, an advocate of using Nollywood as a marketing tool for tourism, said actors like RMD have earned Nigeria the kind of goodwill only stars of their calibre could.
Comedian, Julius Agwu, read RMD’s citation, and then the actor’s portrait was mounted in a conspicuous position in the Hall of Fame. Actor and stand-up comic, Francis Duru, gave a good account as Master of Ceremonies, while comedians Fred Bright, Wahala and Youngest Oldman, added spice to the night humour.
Richard Mofe Damijo is presently the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State.

HOW TO EFFECTIVELY PROMOTE YOUR BUSINESS IN NIGERIA
Posted on July 22, 2010 by admin in Naija Wedding | No Comments
HOW TO EFFECTIVELY PROMOTE YOUR BUSINESS IN NIGERIA
On a daily basis , various brands from rival companies compete aggressively for our financial resources through different marketing mediums. It is an indubitable fact that only those who have crossed their T’s and dotted their I’s before embarking on the promotional aspect are assured of clinching the “golden ticket” to high returns. In other words, before a company launches out on any promotional campaign, the square pegs must have been put in square and not round holes eg market research, discovering the Achilles heel of your competitors, brand on offer, target market and other things must have been ascertained.
The core of promoting your products and services in Nigeria lies in the use of aggressive creative ad campaigns to the target market as carried out by Telecoms companies such as MTN, GLO, ZAIN, ETISALAT, and other companies producing products such as Lux, Pampers, Always, Omo, Sunlight, Ariel, Hollanida milk, Chivita, Chi Exotic, La casera, Coke, Pepsi, Close up, Blue band, Ndomie noodles, Dettol soap etc
1) Electronic media (TV and Radio)
Over 140 million people live in Nigeria, and the proven fastest way of reaching out to your target market lies in the electronic media especially the TV. Various Government and private owned stations abound, however, viewership coverage differs from one station to another. Those reputable for having the widest coverage beyond our shores are Africa Independent Television (AIT), Nigerian Television authority (NTA network). Some have been listed on various Cable TV stations (STV, LTV, TVC) with AIT having Daarsat.
Millions of people daily power on their Tv sets to listen to news, watch entertainment, sports, political, religious, educational, health and other enlightment programmes amongst others. Hence, what better way to promote your products/services than through the use of creative adverts, and if you choose to go the extra mile, have celebrities endorsing same. One of my articles “Nigerian celebrities and brand promotion” dealt with the upsurge of celebrities endorsing various brands on TV. There are also a wide range of booming radio stations such as Rhythm, Cool fm, Ray Power, Star Fm, Radio Continental, Eko fm, Brilla fm, Inspirational fm, Unilag fm, Wazobia fm, Frcn,Von, Ogbc 2 , amongst others.
People can also obtain information about your products while driving, through their mobile phones, boom boxes at home, local restaurants, shops, barbing and hair dressing salons and other mediums.
2) Print Media
Top on the list are This day, Guardian, Punch, The Sun, Vanguard, The Nation newspapers. Advert spaces are keenly contested for. Magazines relating to the company’s interest can also be used (real estate, fashion, wedding, sports, entertainment) and the likes.
3. Others
Other promotional ways include the use of bill boards, flyers, corporate sponsorship of events, internet, e-mails, chat rooms, telemarketing, promo, and where the products/services are good, word of mouth does the trick !.
No matter how good your products/services are, if such are not properly promoted through the right channels capable of prompting fast response in to purchasing /patronizing of same, the company will only be fishing in the dark. I’d advice that you draw up a separate advertorial budget which would reflect the amount you intend to spend on promoting your products/services, and then use the medium that fits in to the budget. As it stands in Nigeria, the best and most effective way of promoting your business is still pegged on the Media.
